The Guangzhou - Foshan portion of the Pearl River Delta Inter-City Rapid Rail project, the first in China, is to start construction officially on June 28, 2007. The project runs 32.16 kilometers all underground, which will shorten the travel time from west Foshan to Guangzhou to 40 minutes. There will be 21 stops on the line, among which 14 will be put into service in 2010. The Guangzhou – Foshan rapid rail has access to Guangzhou Metro Line 1 at Xilang Station, Metro Line 2 at Nanzhou Passenger Station, Metro Line 3 at Lijiao Station and Metro Line 8 at Shayuan Station. Following this schedule, the Foshanese can take the Guangzhou – Foshan rapid rail to Guangzhou and watch the Guangzhou Asian Games.
