With water levels of the Pearl River increasing day by day, the Guangdong Astronomical Society forecast that between June 16th and 17th, the highest tides of this year will occour on the Pearl River perhaps even reaching the lower reaches of the river in the Pearl River Delta, resulting in a tidal range width of over 2.5 meters. Such a spectacular sight is sure to attract lots of citizens to watch.
Astronomers explain that every day a high tide occurs between 12:00 pm and 14:00 pm and which will reappear 45 minutes later the next day. Low tides occur between 22:00 pm and 24:00 pm, and feature different tidal ranges.
These tides usually occur several days before the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, when high rainfall makes water levels of the Pearl River go up fast.
