Mr. Yang Guoqing, Vice Minister, General Administration of Civil Aviation of China delivers speech on the Baiyun Hub Forum held in Guangzhou today.

Last year, there were over 636 planes taking off or landing on Baiyun international Airport, making it one of the busiest air hubs in the world. The expansion of its business is beyond expectation.

The design capacity of the Phase I was handling 210,000 flights in 2010, while last year there was a total of 232,300 flights.

Currently there are more than 40 domestic and foreign airlines operating in Baiyun International Airport, which has more than 120 regular domestic routes and nearly 50 international routes, connecting more than 140 cities and regions all over the world. Baiyun international Airport also serves as transfer center for both domestic routes and the cross-continental lines connecting Asia, Africa, America, Europe and Oceania.

Since running on August 5th, 2004, Baiyun International Airport has developed rapidly and entered the top rank of the world's busiest airports. The passenger throughput was 26.206 million and cargo throughput was 653,100 tons in 2006. Among these figures, a total increase in passenger throughput is more than 1,100 million compared to what it was before relocation.

With the advanced infrastructure and constantly improved of Baiyun International Airport, in 2010, Guangzhou Baiyun international Airport is expected to develop 50 new international routes, and handle around 2 million tons of cargo and 40 million passengers annually. At that time, Baiyun Airport will be developed to be one of the key comprehensive hubs of Asia Pacific. The throughput of the passengers, cargo and mail of Baiyun Airport will rank in the top 20 and 15 respectively all over the world. By 2015, it will handle around 3 million tons of cargo and 60 million passengers annually. By 2020, it will realize to handle around 4 million tons of cargo and 75 million passengers annually. The throughput of the passengers, cargo and mail of Baiyun Airport will rank in the top 15 and 10 respectively all over the world.

To realize a super world class aviation hub, Baiyun International Airport has many advantages.

Unique Location
Baiyun International Airport locates in Guangzhou, which is the largest port and the most important hub for railways, highways, waterways and aviation in Southern China. Guangzhou locates in the center of the Asian Pacific region. It covers major domestic cities and those in Southeast Asian and connects Europe, America, and Australia through radiate network. It's perfect transit and transfer node in this region. From Baiyun International Airport, within six hours people can fly over 20 cities and regions in Asia-Pacific.

Mature Aviation Market
In July 2003, a '9+2 PPRD (Pan- Pearl River Delta region)' strategic concept was introduced to improve regional cooperation. After nearly four years operation, Baiyun International Airport has basically taken role as the center in the spoke route network.

In 2006, the GDP of Guangdong Province reached RMB 2.597 trillion, accounting for about 1/8 of the countries revenue. Guangzhou region's GDP reached RMB 606.841 billion. The total value of imports and exports reached US63.767 billion, up 14.7% & 19.2% respectively year on year. Per capital GDP by permanent residential population is more than 10,000 USD. Industry, exposition, tourism, commerce, and financial transactions are highly developed and their prosperity brings Baiyun International Airport with rich market resources such as rapid growth of passenger and logistics transportation. It is expected that in 2010 Guangzhou's GDP will reach RMB 950 billion.

Ideal Ground Transportation Facilities
In 2004, Baiyun International Airport successfully completed the localization of the management system. This reform facilitated Baiyun International Airport entry into national civil aviation improvement system for the global air traffic circle as well helped expansion with the regional economic development of Guangdong Province and Guangzhou.

Now, Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou Harbor and Metro constitute a transportation hub basis for ground, sea and air, which offers an efficient and convenient modern integrated transport network.

In the future, Baiyun International Airport will be the traffic center and commuter transportation hub for various forms, such as highway, railway, metro, Light Rail Transit (LRT), China Railway High -Speed (CRH) and so on. Therefore, effective transfer and bridging between Baiyun International Airport and the cities in the Pear River Delta and Pan-PRD will come into realize.

Impressive Facilities for the Development
AIRSIDE: The airside of Baiyun Airport has excellent qualifications. There are more than 100 gates and above 10 gates for passenger and cargo aircraft respectively. Two parallel runways in the east and west are in operation simultaneously, with navigation grade 4F and 4E respectively. Thus Baiyun Airport is the first airport available for landing and take-off of A380 in China mainland.

EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES: There are 228 check-in counters operating efficiently at Baiyun Airport. The air catering center has strong ability to provide quality catering service for passengers. A five level baggage security check system is installed.

LOGISTICS: There are two existing domestic air cargo terminals, covering 160,000sqm, with an annual handling capacity of 1.2 million tons and an Grade 1 international Cargo Warehouse (32,000sqm, with annual handling capacity of 300,000 tons.

By the end of 2007, the International Neutral Cargo Terminal (a 40,000sqm grade 1 cargo terminal and 40,000sqm grade 2 warehouses) will be completed. Ten cargo stands will be constructed at the same time. In the north area neighboring FedEx Asia-Pacific Hub, a 56,000sqm international neutral cargo terminal will be build.

The airport authority is now planning to build a more than 20sqkm of supporting industrial park. The first phase of is 6.6sqkm.

FedEx ASIA-PACIFIC HUB: The hub expected to put into use in the end of 2008. It will carry 600 to 800 thousand tons of goods annually when it runs. The hub project occupies a land area of 1,870,000sqm. It has 28 cargo sands, with a designed capacity of 12.5 thousand parcels, 1800 tons of cargo per day. The total investment is 2.4 billion RMB. There will be around 150 cargo flights per week when the hub comes into service, which will efficiently ensures the FedEx AsiaOne Service, FedEx EuroOne Service and other FedEx services worldwide.
