On the morning of March 7, 2007, the Second International Maritime Expo China (INMEX) 2007, co-hosted by the Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, the Chinese Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and the Guangdong Society of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, ceremoniously opened at the Guangzhou Jinhan Exhibition Centre. This INMEX China is currently the most influential exhibition in Asia, with a huge audience. INMEX exhibits the latest products and technologies in the fields of shipbuilding and repair, shipping, marine engineering, etc. It aims to promote the prosperity of the shipbuilding, port, and shipping industries of Guangzhou and possibly even China, raising the influence of Guangzhou's marine industry in the world and driving Guangzhou towards being a "Powerful Port Industrial City".
There are altogether over 400 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions. More than 30 shipping enterprises from Guangzhou participated in the exhibition, headed by the Guangzhou CSSC Longxue Shipbuilding Company, which is the largest modern shipbuilding base in Southern China. This company has carried on the contract to build four 308,000-ton ultra large crude carriers (ULCC) for the first batch. Guangzhou will have achieved an annual production scale of 3 ~5 million tons in 2010, accounting for 20% of the national production capacity.
