At least three people were attacked and injured by wild monkeys at Lotus Hill Park in separate incidents Saturday.
Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital vaccinated the victims against rabies, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
A man surnamed Duan was among those attacked when he was scratched on the leg at about 5:45 a.m. while jogging. The monkey stopped him and begged for food, recalled Duan. With no food on him, Duan tried to walk away, but the monkey followed him, and grabbed his leg when he stopped.
"I'm an animal lover, and I watch the TV program Animal World every day. But when a real monkey approached me, I was scared and didn't know what to do," said Duan.
Duan said three of his friends had also been injured by monkeys recently. In winter, monkeys cannot find enough food on the hills, and beg for food from people. When human beings try to dodge them, the monkeys feel afraid and attack people, said Duan, who suggested the park management feed the animals.
