In order to protect Mt. Lushan, a world heritage from pollution, the government of Jiujiang in Jiangxi Province has decided to relocate the 12,000 residents there in a new district in Jiujiang in the next three years.
The 2-square-kilometer new district for Lushan residents is located at Fanglan Village, 4 kilometers from the center of Jiujiang.
Construction of this new district will start in the second half of 2006, and be completed by 2008. The eco-environment of Mt. Lushan has always been the focus of the world ever since it became a world-cultural landscape in 1996.
Jiujiang government has done a lot of research on its tourist capacity and the recovery cycle of Mt.Lushan's eco-environment, and finally, a conclusion of relocating its residents and limiting the number of visitors to Mt. Lushan to 1.8 million was made.
"The protection work today is meant to pass on the precious heritage to posterity," said Zhao Zhiyong, secretary of Jiujiang Municipal Party Committee.
