China Southern Airlines with the largest and most technically advanced aircraft fleet in the People's Republic of China, made aviation history in China as it signed the official Global Airline Alliance Adherence Agreement (GAAAA) beginning its pathway to membership in the SkyTeam alliance.
China Southern Airlines' mission to join SkyTeam began on August 28, 2004 when China's largest airline signed an initial agreement for future SkyTeam membership. China Southern anticipates that integration of its IT and frequent flyer programs will be completed and membership granted into SkyTeam in the latter half of 2007.
After joining SkyTeam, China Southern Airlines will offer an unparalleled international travel experience, including: more choices with more than 2,100 worldwide ticket offices; more convenience as China Southern passengers will enjoy international standard e-ticketing; streamlined airport check-in procedures with self-service check-in kiosks and luggage drop-off counters and other electronic services to save valuable time.
SkyTeam is one of the world's three major global aviation alliances. Currently, SkyTeam has 10 member airlines that operate more than 2,000 aircraft and nearly 15,000 daily flights to 728 destinations in 149 countries. In 2005, SkyTeam member airlines carried more than 370 Million passengers.
