SHENZHEN tycoon Wang Shi reached the South Pole on Wednesday Beijing Time, becoming the first Shenzhener to complete the "7+2" program, which involves scaling the highest peaks of all seven continents, the North Pole and the South Pole on foot.
Wang, 53, started from the latitude of 89 degrees south and traversed 120 kilometers in seven days, reaching the South Pole at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday Beijing Time. He had suffered from frostbite in minus 20 degrees Celsius temperatures around the South Pole, but was otherwise in good condition.
Wang, chairman of Shenzhen-based housing developer Vanke, started the "7+2" program two years ago, after scaling the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, on his birthday, Jan. 23 2002.
He was part of a six-member expedition team to the South Pole. The team also includes another Shenzhener Zhang Liang.
