With the upcoming "May Day Golden Week" and the closing of the 101st China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), Guangzhou's metro system is expected to receive unprecedented passenger traffic. From May 1st to 3rd, the hours of operation will be extended by one hour.

During this year's May Day holidays, residents of Panyu and Nansha districts will be able to get to the downtown by using the metro train. Passenger flow is expected to hit a new record during the Week. On May 1st the passenger volume of the metro system is likely to exceed 1.8 million.

To provide better services for citizens and the guests of the Canton Fair, the Metro Company has made special arrangements: On April 30, the operating hours of Lines No. 1 and No. 2 will be extended to 19:30, with night intervals of 3 minutes 40 seconds and 3 minutes 53 seconds respectively. Also, from May 1st to 3rd, the operating hours for Lines No. 1 and No. 2 will be extended by one hour, with the shortest intervals ever.

The passenger volume form May 4th to 7th is expected to be the same as that of the weekends, so Saturday & Sunday's timetable will be used. From May 8th, the metro system will resume its normal timetable.
