Guangzhou will spend RMB 120 million to build a hanging corridor system at the central area of the Zhujiang New Town. The walk corridor project has entered the environmental impact evaluation stage. After its completion, 55 corridors will connect all the buildings on the  ground, forming a modern arcade system.

The Zhujiang New Town is a large area with Huangpu Road at the north, the Pearl River at the south, Guangzhou Road at the west, and Huanan Expressway at the east. The proposed hanging corridors will connect the buildings on the east and west of Zhujiang Dadao Xi Road, the east of Huaxia Road and the west of Xiancun Road.

According to preliminary plans, the corridors, 8 meters wide and about 10 meters high above the ground, will cost RMB 120 million. After its completion, vehicles and pedestrians will occupy different areas, so as to fully utilize the land and ensure the safety of pedestrians. It will also bring more convenience as well as shelter pedestrians from the rain and hot sunshine.

It had been learned that related authorities had considered building hanging corridors in Jiefang Road, Beijing Road and other busy roads or commercial areas, for convenience to people's lives.
