Seven lines of Guangzhou Metro are now under construction and by New Year's Day in 2007, Line 3 and Line 4 will fully start operation. At that time Guangzhou's metro network will first break the 100-km mark by reaching 116 kilometers, ranking second across all regions in China (except Hong Kong). By the commencement of 2010 Asian Games, subway lines of the city will become a 255-km network within 18 years and one of the top ten metro networks in global metropolises. Many western countries took almost one century to complete similar process.
The construction of Line 3 and Line 4 (Xinzao to Huangge Segment) is approaching the end and expected to open to traffic by the end of December, when Guangzhou's metro network will first break the 100-km mark by reaching 116 kilometers. A subway transport network that runs across the east, west, south and west of the city will consequently come into being.
The metro company has implemented a range of security-guaranteed measures to take under control the safety of subway construction. "We will blacklist and never cooperate with construction units that irresponsibly subcontract the entire project," stated the company.
