DONGGUAN residents taking Southern Airlines flights from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport no longer have to rush to Shenzhen to check in, after a check-in counter was opened in Dongguan yesterday (Oct 18).

Southern Airlines announced that it had opened a check-in counter in Dongguan yesterday. Passengers can check in at the counter and then take a shuttle bus to the Shenzhen airport to board directly. The new counter saves passengers between 30 and 60 minutes, the company said.

Passengers are required to arrive at the check-in counter 120 minutes before the flight is scheduled to depart.

The check-in counter also provides flight information, sells tickets, and helps change tickets. However, it does not provide luggage check-in service, and passengers who need to check in their luggage have to do so at the Shenzhen airport.

Dongguan is located between Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou and the Shenzhen airport, but the city is closer to Shenzhen.

Dongguan passengers form the second-biggest group of passengers taking Southern Airlines flights from the Shenzhen airport. In 2005, over 700,000 Dongguan passengers took Southern Airlines flights from the Shenzhen airport.
