Shenzhen's traffic police department announced Sunday (Apr 9) that it had taken some measures near the Minle Flyover to ease traffic congestions around the Meilin Checkpoint.
Vehicles have been barred from making a U-turn on the west side of the Minle Flyover, local Chinese-language newspapers reported. Vehicles traveling from Meiban Road to the downtown area should make a U-turn on Meilong Road to enter the Meilin Checkpoint.
Vehicles have also been prohibited from traveling around the traffic island on the east side of the flyover. New fences have been set up near the island to prevent vehicles from being parked there.
The police have set up electronic boards in the area showing which vehicles were found to have been parked in violation of traffic rules, to improve drivers' awareness. They also changed some traffic instruction boards to make them clearer for drivers to follow.
In another development, the traffic police said they would set up warning signs on a slope in the Qingshuihe area to remind drivers to slow down, after an accident killed two April 4. Five similar accidents have taken place on the same slope, local newspapers reported.
Meanwhile, vehicles traveling north from Caitian Road South have also been banned from entering the newly-opened Caitian-Meilin Flyover as the area sees vehicle collisions almost everyday.
