Damo statue installed in Hualin Temple

A statue of ancient Buddhist monk Damo in the Hualin Temple in Guangzhou on Wednesday. The statue, 6.88 meters high and weighing 10 tons, was installed in the temple Wednesday. Said to be the largest Damo statue, it was build by a Foshan factory to commemorate the Indian monk Damo, who was the patriarch of the Chinese Chan Buddhist lineage. With a history of more than 1,400 years, the Hualin Temple was thought to be the first place Damo visited when he came to China from India.
