Ancient Architecture of Guangzhou: Pagodas

Lotus Pagoda was built on the Lotus Hill which is to the mouth of the Pearl River and has long been known as the symbol of the Cantonese capital city. The pagoda, together with two other pagodas, Pazhou and Chigang. Have once been called Three Masts erecting along the banks of the Pearl River.

Pazhou Pagoda

Pazhou Pagoda is located on an island in the Pearl River. The brick pagoda was built in 1600 in the Ming Dynasty, with a height of over 50 meters. In the past when the island was separated from the southern bank of the river, the pagoda looked like a firm post standing in midstream, forming one of the Eight Famous Views of Guangzhou in the Qing Dynasty. It is under the Provincial protection

Lotus Pagoda

Lotus Pagoda is located on the Lotus Hill in Panyu. It is also a brick pagoda built in the Ming Dynasty in 1612. The 9-storyed pagoda is 50 meters tall. Visitors can reach to the top of the pagoda by the brick ladders. The present pagoda was rebuilt in 1981 with donations from compatriots of Hong Kong and Macau. It has been listed as a cultural relic under Provincial protection.
