A grand ceremony of enshrining the world largest Buddha statue was held in Sanya, in south China's Hainan Province today, attended by eminent monks and Buddhist disciples from China and around the world.
The ceremony is believed to be the largest religious activity held in China since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
A total of 108 eminent monks from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan carried out the ritual, praying for the unification of the country and world peace together with more than 10,000 Buddhist followers.
The Buddhist Statue of Guanyin, or Goddess of Mercy, is 108 meters high and claims to be the largest Buddhist statue in the world.
