Latest Updated by 2004-11-22 15:17:56

HIV carriers could be employed as public servants under a new health standard for public servants recruitment, the China Daily reported Saturday (November 20, 2004).

The Ministry of Personnel and the Ministry of Health are seeking public opinion on the second draft of a health standard that would allow HIV carriers -- but not AIDS patients -- to be appointed to public service positions.

The draft is available on both ministries' Web sites. Opinions are be taken between Nov. 15 and 25.

This is the second time the ministries have sought public opinion on health standards.
