ALL pregnant women would be offered free HIV/AIDS tests in Guangdong Province and an anti-AIDS committee to focus on preventing and tackling the fatal disease would be established this year, the China Daily reported Monday.
The committee, which consisted of senior doctors and experts, would try to establish files for all AIDS patients and virus carriers province-wide, the report said.
The committee would also seek more international partnerships and overseas financial support to fight AIDS in the coming years, said Yao Zhibin, chief of the Guangdong Provincial Public Health Department.
Guangdong Province will also spend more to fight AIDS in coming years, and import advanced equipment and technologies to help test and treat AIDS and HIV-positive patients, Yao said.
Yao promised to further improve his province's AIDS medical treatment standards and to offer free medical treatment to the province's AIDS victims in rural areas next year.
Guangdong's confirmed number of AIDS patients climbed to more than 5,000 by the end of 2003.
