The first phase of Canton Fair concluded today (October 20, 2005). Exhibits in the first phase were mainly textiles, garments, footwear, medical equipment, mechanical and electronic products. This session saw a decline in the number of buyers, which is contrary to the previous years of the fair. Usually the number of buyers increases with record highs over the previous session.

According to statistics, from October 15th to October 18th the number of buyers was down 8.85% compared with this year's spring trade fair. In spite of this, the volume of deals has gone up 8% over the same period of spring trade fair this year. The value of deals with mechanical and electronic products exceeds 4 billion USD, accounting for over 60% of the total. In addition, since the beginning of the fair, to October 19th, the Guangdong trade group has made deals totaling 3 billion USD.(October 19). The second phase of the Canton Fair will open on October 25th and close on October 30th, The second phase focuses mainly on daily articles and gifts including toys, porcelain and furniture.
