Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, one of the country's most famous Buddhist sites, will charge visitors who want to be the first to burn joss sticks - a symbol of good luck and fortune for the coming year - on the eve of the coming Chinese lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, reports the Qianjiang Evening News.
To control the number of visitors expected to flock to the temple, only 5,000 tickets will be sold. Prices will range, according to the time of day, from 150 to 200 yuan (US$18-24) between 10 pm on February 8 and 2:30 am the next morning.
The temple will be closed between 2.30 and 5 am, when entrance ticket prices will return to their normal tariff of 45 yuan (US$5.40).
