About 33.5 million Hong Kong residents traveled outside the region Thursday, bringing the total number during the Lunar New Year festive period up to more than 200 million, the government press department said Friday.

In the meantime, over 130 million people, most of them from the Chinese mainland, streamed into Hong Kong.

Over half of the passengers passed through the Lo Hu control point. The passenger traffic at Lok Ma Chau control point and the international airport was also heavy.

The highest daily traffic is expected to reach 310,000 on Feb. 14 with 190,000 people returning Hong Kong.

About 8 million people are expected to travel in and out of Hong Kong during the Lunar New Year festive period, up 15.5 percent year-on-year, the Immigration Department said earlier this month.
