The city's welfare lottery distribution center Monday gave 6 million yuan (US$720,000) toward the fight against SARS.
This is the biggest donation received since the SARS donation hotline was opened.
Of the total, 5.5 million yuan will be used to buy ambulances for 19 people's hospitals in Bao'an and Longgang Districts, the city's social welfare center, detaining posts and funeral parlours.
Another 500,000 yuan will be devoted to supporting frontline medical staff.
In a small-scale ceremony, the director of the Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, Huang Yihui, handed over a check for 500,000 yuan to medical representatives.
After the ceremony, 21 SARS designated ambulances paraded on the city's main roads.
The Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau is responsible for receiving donations for the SARS fight. To avoid the transmission of SARS, the donation program receives money only.
There will be no public activities to raise money. Meanwhile, the city has suspended receiving donations of clothing.
