Macao has a big role to play in the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) cooperation taking advantage of its unique economic features, said Zhang Dejiang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee in Macao Wednesday (Jun 2).
Zhang told reporters when attending the second-day meeting of the first PPRD Regional Co-operation and Development Forum here that the Macao Special Administrative Region's (SAR) involvement in the PPRD regional cooperation would be of crucial importance in sustaining the SAR's own economic growth.
"Macao has contributed a lot of its resources to aid the development of the lack lustered western part of Guangdong Province," said Zhang, who is also the secretary of the Guangdong provincial committee of the CPC.
Zhang said that he hoped Macao people from all works of life would take an active part in the all-round development of the PPRD, which would become one of China's most important economic circles.
During the day, Zhang, who is on his first visit to the Macao SAR, visited several renowned tourist spots, such as the Macao Tower and the Ruins of the St. Paul Cathedral.
