35 years ago, the table tennis team from the United States visited China. The visit, known as "Ping Pong Diplomacy", led to the re-opening of Sino-U.S. relations in the early '70s and also triggered off China's many progresses in diplomatic fields. Today, China is playing a more active and influential role in world stage, its effort and contribution to regional and worldwide peace and economic growth won global attention and respect. President Hu's visit to U.S. is to expand consensus and cooperation, as well as to narrow their differences on bilateral or world issues. Earlier this month, U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli described the visit as "a key milestone in efforts that the two countries work together to contribute to international growth and stability."
