Sina-U.S. Ping Pong Diplomacy (1971)
1971 Story of "Ping Pong Diplomacy"
Early in 1970's, China and U.S. were deliberating on questions related to the re-opening of bilateral relations, which had been cut since 1949. An accidental meeting of Glenn Cowan, American Ping Pong player, and the three-time World Men's table tennis Singles Champion Zhuang Zedong in Nagoya during the 31st World Table Tennis Championships originated American table tennis team's visit to China. The visit sped up the restore of China-U.S. relation, and is named as "Ping Pong Diplomacy".
