In over a dozen of years, Guangzhou hosted a number of important tournaments that represented the highest level of the world from the First FIFA Women's World Cup 1988 to Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Badminton Finals 2002.
Guangzhou is also the host city of two national games which can rival the Asian Games in scale.
The city has shown its ability to host both single event tournaments and comprehensive games with ease.
From relying mainly on governmental appropriations to a successful realization of market- led operations, e.g. the auction of the right to TV relay the reoccurrence of two national games after a span of 16 years signifies the solid steps made by China toward a market economy and also exhibits to the world the unquestionable ability of Guangzhou to hold large games.
57 resplendent gold medals of Asian Games have now settled in Guangzhou permanently. We expect that more gold medals and corollas can find their masters here in 6 years of time.
