The Malaysian government yesterday (April 15th) announced it would not support Kuala Lumpur's bid to host the 2010 Asian Games, leaving Guangzhou as the only remaining candidate.
The Malaysian Sports Minister said the estimated 366 million US dollars it would cost to host the games was too much. According to the Olympic Council of Asia’s rules, the city to host the Games must be decided on by votes at the general assembly.
Wei Jizhong, Chairman of the OCA Sports Committee, said that Kuala Lumpur’s withdrawal of its bid does not mean that Guangzhou would automatically be the host city and that Guangzhou should not slack off in its preparation for the evaluation.
In addition, a promotional film to support the bid was submitted to the evaluation committee this morning, and will be shown on Guangzhou TV tonight.
