Built in 1894, the temple used to serve as an academy for the members of the Chen family who lived in the 72nd county of Guangdong, hence it has another name as the"Chen Clan Academy."Chen Clan Academy is a representative of Xi Guan architectures, renowned for its "San Diao" (three carvings - stone carving, wood carving, and brick carving),"San Shuo"(three sculpture - pottery sculpture, ash sculpture, and colored-clay sculpture), and "Yi Zhu" (One casting - iron casting).
