The Institute for Industrial development Policy
The Institute for Industrial development Policy is a local point for pursuing research and providing learning opportunities in public policy and industrial development. It is a joint venture between the University of Birmingham, the University degli Studi Di Ferrara and the University of Wisconsin. A key objective of the institute is to simulate multinational network amongst scientists, amongst business people and amongst policy makers, and multinational networks across groups. The intention is to highlight crucial issues for ensuring economic prosperity; to provide a forum for these issues to be studied, discussed and understood; and thereby to contribute to the catalyzing of future success in localities, regions and nations.
The Institute aims to foster a new multinationalism by crossing the barriers that exist both between organizations and between individuals, and to do so by nurturing a unique culture of close and lasting working relationships amongst those thinking about industrial development policy.
The University of Ferrara
Founded in 1391 by Marquis Alberto V D'Este with the permission of Pope Boniface IX, the University of Ferrara was one of the oldest universities in Italy. It was located in Ferrara, the university town, where is renowned for its hospitality, beautiful surroundings and the glories of Medieval and Renaissance cultures.
The university consists of 8 faculties, 20 and more departments and institutes. With an increase of applicants year by year, the university enjoys a high reputation among the students. At present, it has a registered enrollment of 20,000.
It offers BA programmes covering 78 disciplines, as well as a variety of curriculums for M.A. degrees, Ph.D degrees and professional trainings. Some of the courses are given in the places outside Ferrara, such as Rovigo, Cento, Argenta, Comacchio, Pieve di Cento, Faenza, Bolzano, etc. The research programmes in the university have seen a prosperous development and achieved remarkable results in the key fields of applied science. In recent years, patents conferred to the university's researchers keep soaring, many of which were utilized in production.
The university boasts a favorable academic environment and the most rational ratio between the amount of students and teachers. In addition, it organizes miscellaneous extracurricular activities in collaboration with various social institutes. Students are able to benefit from the financial assistance policies, including reduction of tuition fees, part-time jobs employment, as well as allowances and scholarships provided by the exchange programs with universities inside and outside Europe. They could also have free access to laboratories and computers on the campus.
