Economic performance in the 10th five-year Plan period
During the 10th five-year plan period (2000-2005), Guangdong province got an annual GDP growth of 13.0 percent, and the provincial GDP hit 2.17 trillion yuan (264.84 Billion dollars) in 2005, accounting 11.9 percent of the state's total, released Governor Huang Huahua in the Government Work Report.
The proportion of added value of primary, secondary and tertiary industries grew form 9.2: 46.5: 44.3 in 2000, to 6.3: 49.5: 44.2 in 2005.
In 2005, the real estate investment, gross retail volume of consumer goods and the trade volume in Guangdong amounted to 695.7 billion yuan, 788.3 billion yuan and 428.0 billion yuan respectively, increasing by 16.3 percent, 15 percent, and 19.8 percent over the previous year.
The annual foreign trade volume growth reached 21 percent in the past five years, and totaled US$238.16 billion in2005, a year-on-year rise of 24.3 percent.
Besides, the aggregate bank savings of the residents surpassed two trillion yuan (US$250 billion) in 2005, growing by 134 percent over 2000.
Pan Pearl River Delta (PPRD) regional cooperation had been built up, and the cooperation of Guangdong and other provinces in business and trade, transportation, labors and tourism showed remarkable growth.
Guangdong planner set target for the province's development for the next five years
According to Governor Huang, in the next five years, Guangdong will focus on development of economy, culture and legal system, and "harmonious society building" and "well-off society building" campaigns.
The province's core task is "development", and its key tasks include economic structure optimization, development mode switch, innovative capacity building and furthering mechanism reform and opening up. The province shall keep an annual GDP growth rate of no less than 9 percent for the next five years.
The per capita GDP in 2010 is to double that of 2000. The energy consumption per GDP unit in 2010 shall fall by at least 13 percent as compared to that of 2005. The public service, legal system, ecological environment and the people's daily life shall be improved.
Development target of the year 2006
In the first year of the eleventh "five-year plan" period, the province expects its GDP to increase by 9 percent and its energy consumption per GDP unit to drop by 3 percent. The retail sales of commodity goods, the fixed asset investment and foreign trade are to go up by 14 percent, 15 percent and 10 percent respectively.
The CPI, the urban registered unemployment rate and the natural growth of population will be kept within 3 percent, 3.8 percent and 0.75 percent respectively. The local government's fiscal revenue, the urban residents' disposable income and the farmers' net income will grow by 10 percent, 7 percent and 4.5 percent respectively.
