At the end of 2005, Guangdong registered 58,762 FIEs, with a total investment of 288.9 billion USD. The two figures grew by 6.3% and 10.7% respectively as compared with the corresponding period last year. Their total registered capital was 167.7 billion USD, an increase of 10.3%. In particular, 136.7 billion USD of it was contributed by foreign parties, growing 12.2%.

The actual number of resident agencies in the province was 15,000 and 17,000 for branches, growing 9% and 16% respectively. Judging from the sectoral distribution of FIEs newly set up in 2005, the tertiary industry scored a major point while the numbers in the primary and secondary industries were down. New manufacturing FIEs stood at 4598, a year-on-year decrease of 17%. Tertiary-industry FIEs stood at 2,645, an increase of 35.5%. Their weight in the total new FIEs was up from 25% in 2004 to 35%.
