The flame of the Doha Asian Games is traveling through Guangzhou today (Oct. 25) as part of its 50,000 kilometers journey around Asia. The 15th Asian Games is to be held 1st - 15th, December 2006 in Doha, Qatar.
The five-hour relay started at the Ming Dynasty Zhenhai Tower, and Yang Jinghui, Athens Olympic Diving Champion from Guangzhou, is the first runner.
The relay run through some of the city's landmarks such as the Five Ram Statue, Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, Beijing Shopping Street, the PLA Soldier Statue, the Pearl River bank, Haiyin Park, Zhujiang Park and the final stop is the Tianhe Sports Center.
A total of 85 torchbearers take part in the activity, including 40 selected from public, 40 world sport champions and professionals from all walks of life and 5 representatives from Doha.
Thousands of spectators watch the relay along the route.
A celebration is held at Tianhe Sports Center to welcome the Flame, where the final Torchbearer Zhong Nanshan, academian of Chinese academy of engineering and specialist in treatment and research of SARS, lights the cauldron.
