PIGI projection makes dazzling opening ceremony in Doha Asian Games
Latest Updated by 2006-12-02 14:51:31

With astonishing images like rolling waves, maps and carpet on the ground, the PIGI projections made the opening ceremony of the 15th Asian Games more colorful here on Friday.

The PIGI also set a record by using 44 projections of the kind, the largest number ever used in this way in a live stadium show. The entire system is controlled by one computer and synchronized to the soundtrack.

As director David Atkins promised on Tuesday that many high-tech elements would be used during the performance of opening ceremony, the PIGI projection played the most of the eye-taking role of the scientific miracles.

Amer Salmeen, a sports magazine manager from the United Arab Emirates, said: "It is unbelievable! I have never seen such vivid effect in a big stadium. It's a magic!"

It is said that with an output of more than 80,000 luments, a PIGI projector is three time brighter than the largest video projection.

The PIGIs are used primarily as a scene-setting tool creating giant pictures on the field of play and also working hand-in-hand with special FX and lighting to create various different effects.
