China's Huang Shanshan brought home the first ever Asiad trampoline gold medal in the women's individual at the Doha Asian Games here on Tuesday.
Huang collected 38.40 points with a commanding performance, winning the first Asian Games trampoline title. There is only one routine required at the final.
Huang soared above the mat and had flawless body line throughout, exploding into a lofty triple pike somersault with a half turn out for the 10-skill set.
Huang achieved the highest scores in both of the two routines in qualification to advance as the top scorer.
"I was not very satisfied with my performance. I just performed a so-so standard," said Huang.
"Compared with yesterday, I did a bad job. The victory is only a little margin," added Huang.
"I am doing everything for Olympic preparation, so I picked up a high-difficulty routine. I like to take each opportunity to practise the routine."
Her teammate Zhong Xiongping, the second finisher in qualification, took the silver with 38.30 points.
Zhong featured clean twisting and somersaults, putting her in striking position to challenge Huang for the gold, but finished second with a mark margin of 0.10.
Ekaterina Khilko of Uzbekistan settled with a bronze on 36.00 points. Khilko's teammate Anna Savkina suffered "sudden death" to pick up 7.40 points only.
Huang can be counted as China's superstar on trampoline, who was the only Asian gymnast featured in the women's final in Birmingham. Huang has been in impeccable form this year, but missed her trajectory in Birmingham, crushing her dreams of medal.
Two-time Olympian Khilko has had a consistent World Cup with a fourth, fifth and seventh in recent events.
