"Super" Dan, China's best hope for the men's singles' gold, met his waterloo Sunday (August 15, 2004) in the first round of the 28th Olympic badminton tournament, losing to Singapore's Ronald Susilo 15-12, 15-10.
Lin Dan, top seed in the tournament, seemed to be not in good form as he made too many unforced errors, while his opponent, unseeded Susilo who claimed 2004 Japan Open title, exerted his best-ever performance with his strong forehand strikes.
All England champion Lin Dan met Susilo four times before, holding a 3-1 lead.
