European champion Russia wrapped up its Athens Olympic campaign with the bronze medal after beating Brazil 71-62 in the women's basketball competition on Saturday (Aug 28).
The Russians dominated the board by 41-28 for the victory though they shot poorly in the field, 25-of-73.
Diana Gustilina led the world runner-up by 12 points and Irina Osipova grabbed 10 rebounds.
Entering the decisive fourth quarter by 47-46, Russia ran for a11-3 start to open the gate to victory at 58-49.
"I am not happy. I want the first place. The rest is nothing," Elena Baranova said. "I cannot be satisfied with the 3rd place. I don't like the feeling of not being the number one."
Brazil's top-scorer Iziane Marques was 5-of-18 in the field to finish with 16 points and six assists. Janeth Arcain added 15 points and five assists.
The 2.00-meter center Alessandra Oliveira contributed 13 points and nine rebounds to Brazil.
"The 4th place in Olympics is not bad. We tried very hard and had the support of our fans, who cheered for us even when the game was not coming our way," Arcain said.
In Saturday's later game, three-time champion United States is playing against Australia. Both kept perfect 7-0 records.
