Along with the economic growth of Guangdong Province and the rapid increase of the business of the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, the current establishment of the airport falls short with the demand of passenger and cargo transportation. In order to adapt the need for further opening and development, the General Bureau of Civil Aviation, governments of Guangdong province and Guangzhou city decided to build the new Guangzhou Airport in place of the current Baiyun Airport.
