In the period from 2002 to 2006, Guangdong's GDP registered an average annual increase of 14.5%,prominently above the national average, accounting for about one-eighth of the national GDP, up from one-ninth, thus vigorously pulling the country in economic growth.
Guangdong has achieved a more balanced development pattern with both outward and inward economic orientations quickly forming side by side, the Pearl River Delta region playing its leading role and the rest of the province going all out to catch up.
Since 2003,Guangdong has initiated 鈥10 Key Projects鈥, with great importance attached to infrastructure projects in transportation and energy. Guangdong has also worked hard to foster the growth and expansion of basic industries.
