HK household income up 4.4%

Hong Kong's median household monthly income in the third quarter grew to 16,700 Hong Kong dollars (2,147 U.S. dollars), up 4.4 percent on the same period last year, Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department said Thursday.

The median individual monthly salary rose 2 percent to 10,000 Hong Kong dollars (1,285 U.S. dollars), according to a household survey by the department.

The survey found that the number of employees grew 3.3 percent to 3,496,100, of whom 1,890,200 are men.

The unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent, compared with the 5.4 percent figure recorded in the same period last year. The number of unemployed fell 12.2 percent to 180,400.
