According to some major travel agencies in Guangdong on September 28) statistics from their sales divisions show that the number of tourists to Hong Kong for the upcoming National Day holiday declined 30 percent compared with the same time last year.
To relieve this situation, some Hong Kong hotels have brought down their previously raised prices to attract more tourists.
For example, a standard double room at the Hong Kong four-star Regal Oriental Hotel only costs 530 yuan, almost the same as the usual price. Insiders said that in early and mid September, the Hong Kong hotels overestimated the mainland market during the National Day holiday and brought up their prices by almost 40 percent, causing many tourists to cancel their Hong Kong travel plans.
Insiders suggest that Hong Kong hotels should work out more reasonable prices to meet consumer demand.
