Hong Kong retail outlets are hanging their hopes on the huge influx of travellers arriving from the Chinese mainland during the upcoming one-week National Day holiday.
Hong Kong's flagship shopping centre, the International Finance Centre Mall, has promoted sales in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to encourage potential travellers to splurge while visiting Hong Kong.
An estimated 400 thousand travellers will arrive in the Special Administrative Region during the holiday, a 16 percent increase over the some period last year. As a result, the travellers are expected to consume ten to twenty percent more than last year.
Since the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong signed Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement in 2003, residents in over 30 mainland cites are now able to apply for individual visas to Hong Kong.
