THE seven-hour charity concert "Love Without Boundary," which was held at the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday, has raised over HK$32 million (US$3.85 million).

The concert was launched by Hong Kong artists Eric Tsang, Jackie Chan and Xu An-hua. Celebrities from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Chinese mainland participated in the event. Tung Chee-hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government, also showed up and called on donations from local residents.

In the concert, top stars packed the stage where they gave a rendition of the signature song Love.

Love is the Chinese version of We Are The World, the song wrote in 1985 to raise money for famine-struck Africa.

Tickets to the show were free and it was beamed live to 40 television stations and Web sites across the world.

China's top action movie star, Jet Li, who was in the Maldives with his family during the disaster, spoke of his brush with the tsunami.

The stars urged fans to fill the donation boxes while television viewers were encouraged to call hotlines to donate. Company representatives took turns onstage handing over giant checks.

By the end of last week, the total value of Hong Kong donations had surpassed HK$700 million, which was the biggest value for a single city in the world.

Charity concerts were also held in many other cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taipei. China has become one of the most important forces in helping tsunami-affected areas.
