Two HK tourists injured by tidal waves in Thailand

Two Hong Kong tourists, a 26-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were injured by quake-led tidal waves in Phuket, a famous tourist resort in southern Thailand, Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting Co. Ltd. reported Sunday night.

Hong Kong Cable Television also reported that there were injures to Hong Kong tourists in Thailand.

So far, Hong Kong's Security Bureau has received 53 cases of inquires and 41 requests for assistance concerning the tidal waves that hit the tourist resort island in southern Thailand Sunday.

Local radio reports said over 1,200 Hong Kong tourists are in Phuket now and they were feared to have been affected by the quake-triggered tidal waves in Phuket.

Hong Thai Travel Services and two other major travel services claimed that they have contacted all of their tourist groups in Phuket.

Hong Kong Immigration Department has opened a 24-hour hotline at (852) 2829 3010 for inquires of citizens.

An 8.7-magnitude earthquake jolted many parts of Sumatra, Aceh in Indonesia on Sunday morning.

The epicenter of the quake was located in Molabo, Aceh, the country's westernmost province.

Four Orient Thai flights to and from Phuket scheduled for Sunday and Monday were also canceled.
