Latest Updated by 2004-09-09 08:59:09

The Red Cross Society of Macao has raised 400,000 yuan (50,000 US dollars) in an emergency relief fund to aide flood relief in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality in southwest China.

The fund was remitted to the Red Cross Society of China Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Macao red cross has waged a public donation campaign in a continued effort to this end.

Torrential rains in the southwest China region has caused a casualty of some 200 people and direct economic losses of 3.3 billion yuan (398 million US dollars).

The Macao red cross has been notified that its counterpart in the mainland has sent relief personnels to the disaster-hit regions to evaluate the losses. The two sides have kept in close touch on the latest flood relief information.
