The number of Macao's mobile phone users hit 388,000 in June, or 86 percent of its total population.

According to figures from the Macao Information Technology Development Office, the monthly increase in the number of new subscribers using telecom charge cards has outpaced that of new mobile phone users, who pay monthly fee. Based on the population survey at the end of last year, more than four fifth out of Macao's 448,000 residents are mobile phone users.

Meanwhile, 73,186 households in Macao have Internet access. If the basic number of a nuclear family is a couple with one child, nearly half of Macao's population have Internet access at their home. And among them, 34,250 households have opened broad band service.
