The coastal wetlands in Shantou City, eastern Guangdong is selected as China's first GEF Focal Area for wetlands, approved by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council at its fourth assembly in Manila, capital of the Philippines recently.
With lush red forests attracting all kinds of birds, wetland resources in Shantou become a unique scene for visitors.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF), established in 1991, helps developing countries by funding projects and programs that protect the global environment. GEF grants support projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants.
