Officials from Shenzhen's environmental watchdog survey the seawater polluted by a chemical spill near the Shekou fishing port in western Shenzhen yesterday. Employees of Topsearch Printed Circuits Limited tried to hose down a fire at one of its workshops yesterday, causing chemicals to spill into the city's sewage system and then into the port.
The pollution was controlled within an area of several thousand square meters after government workers sprayed aluminum chloride to alleviate the pollution. The government said the spill affected the water quality in the port but would not affect residents.
