Officials from the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau greet a group of expat teachers in the city prior to a New Year concert yesterday. More than 40 expat teachers were invited to the concert held at the Children's Palace, which was performed by a troupe of Shenzhen teachers. The number of expat teachers working in Shenzhen has risen by 30 percent annually since 2001 and the city is still in urgent need of foreign teachers, according to the bureau. Data released by the bureau showed that a total of 114 schools or educational institutions had hired some 480 full-time expat teachers by Sept. 2005.
