"Blades of Glory", a skating comedy, topped the box office in North America this weekend with about 33 million U.S. dollars in ticket sales, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

The Paramount comedy tells the story of two spandex-clad male skating rivals who put their differences aside to skate together in a professional pairs competition.

In second place was "Meet the Robinsons", a computer animated Disney movie about a boy who builds time machines. The movie debuted with about 25.1 million dollars, according to box office tracker Media By Numbers.

The Persian war epic "300'' ranked third at the box office this weekend with about 11.2 million dollars. The Warner Bros. movie has raked in nearly 180 million dollars in North America since opening four weeks ago. "TMNT,'' another Warner Bros. blockbuster, brought in about 9.2 million dollars this weekend. The movie about crime fighting ninja turtles has brought in about 135 million dollars since it opened five weeks ago.

Buena Vista's middle-aged motorcycle comedy "Wild Hogs" brought in about 8.4 million dollars this weekend.

Rounding out the top 12 were "Shooter" (8 million dollars); "Premonition" (5.1 million); "The Hills Have Eyes II" (4 million); "Reign Over Me" (3.7 million); "The Lookout" (2 million); "The Namesake" (1.5 million).

The weekend's top 12 films posted a combined gross of 115 million dollars, down about 13 percent over the same weekend last year. Compared with last weekend, ticket sales for the top 12 films were down about 14 percent.
