
Comedy spoof "Epic Movie," which satirizes every from "Borat" to "X-Men," finished first at the North American box office with an estimated 19.2 million U.S. dollars in its debuting weekend, according to preliminary figures released on Sunday.
While the action drama "Smokin' Aces," starring Oscar winner Ben Affleck and soul singer Alicia Keyes in the hunt down of a snitch who testifies against the mob, debuted at No. 2 with 14.3 million dollars, said the Los Angeles-based box office tracker Media By Numbers.
The Ben Stiller comedy "Night at the Museum," stayed strong its sixth week in the box office, coming in third place with an estimated 9.5 million dollars.
The movie -- in which Stiller plays a security guard at a museum where the exhibits and displays come to life during the night -- has grossed 216.7 million dollars since its debut before the Christmas.
"Catch and Release," starring Jennifer Garner, debuted in fourth place with about 8 million dollars, while "Stomp the Yard," the box office leader in last two weeks, slipped to fifth with 7.8million dollars.
The 12 top-grossing movies grossed about 89 million dollars over the three-day weekend, an 11.2 percent drop from the 100.15 million dollars grossed by the top dozen films during the same period a year ago.
